Episode 6: Double Dragon

Hammer and Spike... oops, I mean Matt and Joe are back after a short break with a brand new episode of Overcast.  A day early even!  Figured we owed it to our listeners since it was ready earlier than normal.  This week we speculate a bit about how we suspect Trion may wrap up 2012, address the popular concerns regarding 'Infernal Marks of Ascension', share our opinions on fishing and survival, and more! Enjoy!

  3. As a veteran WoW player for 2 years that recently has explored RIFT again (I tried it at launch, felt it was too close to WoW, and left until a few weeks ago) I hope that Trion *NEVER* goes the Wrath/Cata way of obsoleting prior raids. When I started WoW it was the end of Wrath and you could skip straight to Icecrown Citadel through grinding heroic dungeons for badges. Except maybe some items from Trial of the Crusader, all the older Cata raids were ignored outside of steamrolling for achievements. I hated that. It gave me zero sense of anything because as a new raider I was "thrown into the deep end" immediately.

As a new RIFT player, I don't want to ding 50 and skip straight to Infernal Dawn or even Hammerknell. I want to gear up, I want to do the T1 raids, then the T2 raids, and then Infernal Dawn. I already don't like that they merged the T1 and T2 expert dungeons together, even though I understand the reason, because it broke a little of the progression path (fresh 50 -> AP/CC normal -> T1 expert -> T2 expert).

I really don't want to ding 50 and be told "just run experts for full T2 gear and then find an ID guild" like I had to do in WoW when it was "just run heroics for T9 and go right to ICC".

  4. Thanks for the feedback Wayne. I feel the same way about old content but am of the opinion that at some point it will have to be done. The common mistake when obsoleting old content is that it's done far to soon and to often. If they never had to obsolete any content at all, I'd be very happy. I just don't see a good alternative.

I also want to point out real quick that the T1/T2 expert change was very good because you were able to skip right over T1 experts using crafted gear anyway. All this did was give us twice the amount of experts worth doing. It also made that T1 content a bit fresher as they beefed up those instances to be on par with T2. They were far to easy prior to this change.

Excellent post Wayne. Thanks for listening and welcome back to Rift.
